Dennis Tompkins of Sumner, WA is a Certified Arborist, urban forester and WSU (Washington State University) Master Gardener. He has been certified by the International Society of Aboriculture (ISA) since 1994 (license: PN-0496). He recently achieved the designation as a Certified Tree RiskAssessor (PNW-485). Dennis received the 2007 "Arborist of the Year" award from the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the ISA. He has been an instructor at various tree root disease workshops. He also has been a consultant to the Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree industry since 1976. He is a nationally known expert on the industry and speaks to Christmas Tree organizations throughout the United States. After 19 years, he recently retired as the Editor of The American Christmas Tree Journal, a publication of the National Christmas Tree Association. He has written over 200 articles, features and editorials regarding the industry. Dennis had a monthly "Arborist column" in the The News Tribune newspaper for five years. He currently pulishes a monthly column in the Bonney Lake-Enumclaw Courier Herald and contributes to various other publications - including homeowner association newsletters. Subjects include pruning techniques, insect and disease pests, tree disputes, tree health and other issues of interest to homeowners that have tree concerns.
